Living at the beach with our Cavaliers, is a dream come true. Many years ago, I was born on the coast and I have never forgotten all of our family trips to the ocean. Jumping the waves and building “sandcastles” at the beach are my fondest memories. So when we decided to buy property and build a new home on the waterfront at Ocean Shores, Washington, there was a feeling of coming home. All of our Cavaliers love to walk the beach and play on our dock and watch the abundant wildlife.
In the 90’s we bought our first Golden Retriever, Baron. We intended on training him to hunt, but by the time he was six months old we had started formal training for the Hunt Tests and the Field Trials. We were hooked, working our Goldens in the field four to six days a week, training and breeding for the hunt tests. We belonged to the Evergreen Golden Retriever Club; working and participating in each Hunt Test held by our club. We were lucky enough to help and participate in the Field Trial held in conjunction with the 1998 Golden Retriever Nationals sponsored by EGRC. We were very proud of Baron, who was still less than two years old and placed fifth that year, among some of the top Field Trial dogs in the Nation and from other countries. We met many wonderful people and made lasting friends in the years with our Golden Retrievers.
The beauty of movement, intelligence, dedication, and wonderful temperaments are among some of the things we learned about and grew to greatly admire in these dogs. After tragically loosing our very beloved “Bessie,” I knew that I needed a loving companion. Prior to this, a nurse I worked with (we were both Registered Nurses in the Operating Room) had brought over two of her Cavalier King Charles Spaniels to our home. I was never able to get those beautiful dogs out of my mind and had my heart set on a Cavalier from that moment on. I was lucky enough to acquire a Homerbrent Cavalier that had come over from England about six months previously. She was indeed my “comfort dog.” Soon I was to learn that one Cavalier would never be enough.
Since then, we have been so fortunate to meet wonderful Cavalier breeders that have mentored us and taught us so much. We belong to the AKC Cavalier Parent Club, the American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club and we are members of our local club, the Cavaliers of Puget Sound.
Our next three Cavalier puppies came from Wendy Stang of Rosebriar Cavaliers located in Beavercreek, Oregon. Wendy has been a wonderful mentor, giving us many hours of instruction in this breed. Two of these Cavaliers are now Champions and the third is already pointed and on her way to becoming a Champion. We are truly indebted to Wendy for our beautiful Cavaliers and her irreplaceable friendship.
Health, structure, movement, and temperament are of the utmost importance in our breeding program. We strive to learn as much as we can to only breed and show towards the Cavalier Standard. All health testing is done, including annual heart and eye clearances by Canine Cardiologists and Canine Ophthalmologists.
Please feel free to contact us anytime about our wonderful Cavaliers!
